Sunday Services - 8 & 9:30am

One day I remember Bishop Fitz Allison lamenting, “No one cares about doctrine anymore.” That was in 1973! We all were using the 1928 Prayer Book and only had male bishops and presbyters. Yet Fitz could say this because interest in doctrine was fading. The reality we see all around us today in the Episcopal Church began many years ago. In 1801 the Episcopal Church adopted the 39 Articles of Religion as a guiding doctrinal statement for the whole church. It had a salutary effect on our church for a century.

Today, while the American Episcopal Church no longer pays attention to the Articles, newly formed groups of Anglicans - like CANA and ACNA, to name two, have again made the Articles one of the 3 formularies of the Anglican Church (1662 BCP and the Ordinal being the other 2 – all under the authority of scripture.) For that we rejoice – but do we know what they say?

Our goal over the 5 Wednesday evenings beginning on March 12 at 6 pm will be to familiarize ourselves with the Articles by listening to presentations followed by discussion on some of the main themes of the Articles of Religion. A light meal will be served at 6 p.m.

Study guides will be available. Volunteers will bring soup and bread. If you would like to assist in that, please let me know. - JAB

Update the Finding List

Please pick up paper copy of this newsletter as enclosed is a family information form. Please fill it out and send it to the office. Our goal is to put together a new directory by the summer including family pictures. We’ll be taking pictures after Sunday Services sometime in May.

Trip to Bach Concert

Church of Our Saviour is sponsoring a parish trip on Sunday March 16 after the 9:30 service to the National Presbyterian Church in Washington DC to hear the Washington Bach Consort’s performance of JS Bach’s St. John Passion. Carpooling will be organized and parishioners and friends have the option of meeting for lunch in DC before the concert which begins at 3PM. Everyone pays for their own tickets and lunch. Tickets go from $23. To $65, with students and children paying their ages. This will be a popular concert and could be sold out so purchase your tickets soon. More can be seen on this via the website: bachconsort.org. The Bach Consort is highly respected and this is a great opportunity to hear excellent sacred music especially appropriate for Lent. Confirmation

Confirmation classes for youth and adult begin the weekend of April 5. We’ll have two classes, one on Saturdays at 10 am and Sundays after the 9.30 service. Classes will be held at the Farm House. Let me know if you plan to come. At this time, we don’t know when confirmation will take place, however, we do want to prepare a class ready for confirmation.
