Senior Warden Message

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Last Sunday the Vestry hosted a special Parish Meeting to present our proposal for a new Parish Hall. Here’s an overview of key points, in case you couldn’t be there.

The purpose of the meeting was two-fold. First, to share the proposal we’ve developed since 2022 with input from the Building and Capital Campaign committees. And second, to initiate a period of communications with all the congregation on the proposal before any decision is made to build.

In the presentation we reflected on our spiritual challenge, the importance of our Parish life, and our remarkable growth—giving has nearly doubled our income for the past two years, and the average Sunday attendance has nearly tripled since 2020. Notably, we have 42 children who are under the age of 13, and there are 19 children who are five years old and younger. Last year we celebrated two weddings, and this year we anticipate four!

Next, we received a presentation of the proposed new multi-purpose Parish Hall, estimated to cost $1.5 million to build, with explanations and Q&A on the concept design with our architect Karl Riedel and members of the Vestry and committees. We wrapped up with a tentative overall timeline and encouraging news from the Capital Campaign committee—we have already received donations and pledges for the building totaling more than $260k and the campaign to raise finances doesn’t begin until April 28th. Plus, we have a healthy amount in our general operating fund through your generous giving and our collective stewardship.

The concept design for the new building is not yet finalized—we welcome your input and recommendations for improvements. Please contact your Vestry members or members of the supporting committees or submit questions or comments to [email protected]. We have two more Parish Meetings scheduled: one on April 14th at 9:15 am which will include a Q&A session, and one on April 28th focused on finances and the kick-off of the capital campaign.

Although the Vestry unanimously supports the proposal and has given or pledged funds for its construction, no decision has yet been made to build. That will involve prayer, support from the Parish in the coming days, and a successful capital campaign to finance the construction.

As always, please let any member of the Vestry know how we can better serve the Lord with you.

Your Senior Warden,
Steve Mouton

Coffee Hour Changes

Coffee Hour Hosting Changes

As our church family grows, the coffee hour needs are also growing.  We are trying a new concept where teams of 3-4 people will be assigned specific Sundays to be responsible for providing refreshments for coffee hour.  We already have 2 teams set up and ready to go.  We would like to have at least 2 more teams of 3-4 people each.  If you are interested, please let Karen Rafferty know at [email protected].  You can either organize your own team of 3-4 or let us know you are interested in helping and we will assign you to a team.  If you organize your own team, please see the e-sign at the bottom of this e-news.

We hope you will join us in this important and rewarding activity for our church family.

All Parish Meeting | March 17

Please join us this Sunday, at 9:15 am, for our All Parish Meeting where we will be discussing some exciting developments regarding the future of our parish.  We will be hearing from Fr. Jonathan about the current state of the parish, the exponential growth, increased ministry events, current challenges, and additional needs. A presentation will be given by the Building Committee and the architect commissioned to support our research to discuss the needs assessment, and how we can address our current and projected needs.  Also, the newly created Capital Campaign Committee will detail some ideas for how we plan to raise funds for this exciting time and specific ways you can help. As we embark on this effort, we ask for your prayers and support as we seek to create a space that will be a bulwark of our faith for generations.

5K for Mosaic! | April 6th

“Color Run” to support Mosaic. Marcia Washburn is coordinating a 5K run on the Patrick Henry College campus this April 6th that is supporting Mosaic’s work. Over $1,2000.00 has been raised so far and they are expecting between 150-200 students, faculty/staff, and community members to come run and walk the course. All are welcome and encouraged to join in the run and to donate to a worthy cause – LIFE!

For more information see Marcia Washburn, click HERE, or cut and paste this link: https://runsignup.com/Race/Donate/VA/Purcellville/PHCColorRun5K

See you on the course!

It is about time to start our weekly mowing of the church property! If you have served on the team before and desire to continue serving in this capacity, or you would like more information about how to get involved, please contact Criss Hyde via the email address listed below.

Thank you in advance!

Work Day | May 4

There are some projects in the rectory and cottage that are a bit more than “work-day projects” and will require a more time. Doing these ourselves allows us to conserve resources, to be good stewards of our buildings and property, and take care of our Rector and his family. Specifically, we are looking for volunteer help with some woodworking and tile projects. If you have experience and would like to possibly volunteer, call/text Susan Herbert at the phone number listed below.

To see a list of the things we need to accomplish, please visit the narthex for a list.

Please SAVE THE DATE for the next parish WORK DAY: Saturday, May 4th!

‎Women’s Forum – March 2nd @ 1pm

March 2nd @ 1pm

Please join the women of the church on Saturday, March 2nd at 1:00 p.m. in The Cottage for the second portion of a discussion on outreach, led by Debby Caulfield. It is a wonderful time of fellowship and growth. All women of the church 13+ are encouraged and welcome to attend! If you have any questions, please see Lois Davis or Karen Dryden.

New Member / Confirmation Forms

If you are planning to become a new member or be confirmed in April and have been attending the 9:15 a.m. class on Sunday mornings, please fill out the form found in the Narthex and email it to Rachel Reeves via scanned photo at the email address listed below OR give it to her or Fr. Jonathan on a Sunday morning.

Thank you so much!

Senior Warden Message

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The Vestry met last week and I wanted to share three key takeaways with you.

We will hold a special Parish Meeting on March 17 during the 9:15 Sunday School hour to share with you what the Vestry and the building and capital campaign committees have been doing toward our goal to build a new Parish Hall. We hope you can be there to learn about this exciting development, and we appreciate your patience as we work to provide more room for our growing Parish life.

Secondly, to help improve our communications—especially on Parish finances—we’ve asked Treasurer Sean Reeves to provide a short financial update each quarter of the year at the beginning of the 9:15 Sunday School hour. We will announce these updates in advance and encourage everyone from both services to be there to be better informed about the Vestry’s stewardship of our finances while reflecting on God’s provision through your faithful giving.

Thirdly, the Vestry considered minor revisions of our existing bylaws recommended by our Bylaws Committee to better align with the recently published Diocese model bylaws. After discussion, the Vestry decided to table the revisions and continue using our existing bylaws.

For more details on our monthly Vestry meetings, I encourage you to review the minutes regularly posted in the Cottage and now also in the Narthex. Please let any member of the Vestry know how we can better serve the Lord with you.

Your Senior Warden,
Steve Mouton
