Book Club Nov. 16th — Watership Down
November 16, 2023 @ 5pm – 8pm
Current Book: Watership Down by Richard Adams
Watership Down is an adventure story about a group of rabbits, fleeing the destruction of their warren and building a new home. While on the surface it is a fun tale of animal adventures, Watership Down is a poignant exploration of leadership, community, and the relationship between creation and Creator. Author Richard Adams based Watership Down on his experiences during Operation Market Garden and the Battle of Arnhem in 1944. Readers may be surprised by the philosophical and political commentary the stories provide, which remain directly relevant today.
Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 16th @ 5pm. More details to come.
If you are interested in participating in book club generally, getting updates on future books, and keeping up to date on discussions, please email Virginia Phillips at:
“Israel, the Gaza War, and Christians” – Nov. 12th, 6pm

What should Christians think about Israel’s war on Hamas? Is it just? Is Israel connected to Christians? If so, how?
The entire parish is encouraged to join together on Sunday evening, November 12th, at 6:00 p.m. as Gerald McDermott discusses this important topic with us.
McDermott is the author, co-author, or editor of two dozen books on Jonathan Edwards, Christian theology of world religions, and the meaning of Israel. His co-authored “Theology of Jonathan Edwards” was named by Christianity Today as the top book for 2013 in theology and ethics. McDermott held endowed chairs at Roanoke College and Beeson Divinity School and now teaches at Reformed Episcopal Seminary and Jerusalem Seminary. He and his wife Jean live in Charlottesville, VA, with their three sons and daughters-in-law, and thirteen grandchildren.
